This Access Statement does not contain personal opinions as to our suitability for those with access needs but aims to accurately describe the facilities and services that we offer all our guests. Guests with access needs should consider their own individual requirements and call us in advance of booking if they have any doubts as to whether their chosen accommodation will be suitable.

Introduction

We take pride in making our guests feel welcome and aim to ensure that everyone is able to enjoy their visit to Drummohr. Our wardens are pleased to offer assistance and advice when booking and/or during your stay. Our site is rated 4-star by Visit Scotland and we aim to ensure that our amenities are maintained to the highest standard. Guests should be aware that the main roadways on site, including access to the amenities, is via gravel paths and roads. Pre-Arrival

We cater for tents, caravans, campervans and motor homes, as well as offering a selection of glamping pods and bothies, holiday lodges and a self-catering holiday home. Pets are welcome in all facilities expect the self-catering holiday home, our Pentland lodges, our Octo glamping pods, our Hexi glamping pods and our deluxe bothies. Our tent pitches are grass and we have hard-standing (both gravel and block paved) and grass touring pitches. Our site roads are gravel.

We accept enquiries and booking requests by email, online from our own website or via our booking partners or by telephone or post. Our website www.drummohr.co.uk contains details and photographs of the facilities at the site. A copy of this Access Statement in larger font can be e-mailed on request.

Drummohr sits around 2 miles from the centre of Musselburgh in a semi-rural location. The road leading to the site is a country lane and there is no pavement or street lights. There is a public bus stop around half a mile from the site entrance along this road entrance down a hill. Buses run frequently into Edinburgh city and East Lothian and buses are wheelchair accessible. The nearest railway station is located at Wallyford, which is around 30 minutes’ walk, with trains North Berwick and Edinburgh. There is no taxi rank at Wallyford station and all taxis should be booked in advance. There is a large car park at the train station.

The site has a gradual slope North and the car park, roadway and parking areas are gravel, making wheelchair access difficult. There will be uneven surfaces.

Car Parking and Arrival

The site has a security barrier which is accessed via a security code provided on arrival. Reception is located outside this gate and has level, gravelled car parking facilities directly outside. On request we can do the registration without the guest leaving their car. There is a seat inside Reception.

Once booked in, guests may park one car on their pitch or next to their glamping pod or bothy or lodge. Any additional cars can be left in the car park at an additional charge, but space is limited. There is parking for 2 cars outside the Melville Retreat.

Reception and Shop

These are located at the site entrance. There is a small gravel parking area outside. The shop stocks a small range of items, with the closest supermarkets and facilities being located in Musselburgh (2 miles away). Our wardens will assist with the selection of any items in the shop if required. Please note we take only card payments in the shop. There are no steps at the entrance. The doorway is 137cm wide and the Reception area/shop is accessible for wheelchairs and pushchairs. There is limited space for a wheelchair to manoeuvre and turn once inside.

The floor is vinyl. The reception area is lit with spot down lights.

The wardens speak English only, but we provide bus details in a variety of languages including including French, German, Dutch, Italian and Spanish. To help with communication in the office we can provide pen and paper to write instructions or questions on. All areas and pitches are clearly signposted from reception with an infographic map. A site warden will always show you to your pitch and ensure that you are comfortable.


Touring Facilities

Grass, standard and serviced pitches are available. Pitches are pre-allocated prior to arrival and our wardens will utilise reasonable endeavours to account for all the needs of our guests stipulated at the time of booking. We cannot guarantee a designated pitch. All pitches are clearly numbered. 

All our hard-standing touring pitches have 16 amp electric.

Our super touring pitches measure 8m x 8m and are fully serviced with 16-amp electric hook-up, grey waste drainage and a direct water feed. Our large touring hard standing pitches measure 7.5m x 5m and are large enough for a caravan or motorhome unit and an awning. Our small touring pitches measure around 7.5m by 3.5m and are not large enough for an awning. We also have a small number of backpacker pitches available for short stays. 

The hard-standing pitches are level and well drained. All hard-standing pitches have 16-amp electric hook-ups available.

We have two amenities buildings and all touring pitches are located within 200 yards of one of our two Amenities Blocks. 

Our wardens are available to assist with the pitching and levelling of your caravan, campervan or motorhome if required.

Glamping Pods and Bothies

Our Octo and Hexi glamping pods are allocated are located at the top end of the site and are close to our top amenities blocks. All pods are accessible via a small step and a door lip and there is limited room for manoeuvre once inside. The pods are not suitable for wheelchair access. Our Fairy and Adventure Hexi glamping pods contain two sets of bunk beds.

Our glamping bothies are also accessible via a small step onto a veranda and are not suitable for wheelchair access. Our family bothies and deluxe bothies with WC have a small bathroom with toilet and wash basin at conventional height.

Lodges

Our holiday lodges with hot tubs at the furthest end of the site away from the site entrance, accessed by gravel roadways. Access to the lodges themselves is via a ramp but there is a lip to access both the ramp and the doorway. The lodges entrances are not suitable for wheelchairs. Once inside the lodges are all one level, with sinks, toilets and equipment being at conventional height. There is a small lip into the shower. The room sizes do not conform to wheelchair accessible standard  BS8300.

The decking surfaces can become slippery when wet or icy and extreme care must be taken. The hot tubs are accessible via a set of steps and would not be suitable for guests with limited mobility.

Melville Retreat

Our self-catering holiday cottage is located at the site entrance opposite Reception. Access to the front door is via 2 steps and there is no handrail. Inside the property is spacious with room to move around but is not wheelchair accessible. The room sizes do not conform to wheelchair accessible standard  BS8300. The property is all on one level. It has 2 double bedrooms and a twin room, one of the double rooms has an en-suite room with shower tray, toilet and hand basin at conventional height. There is also a family bathroom with large shower cubicle with shower tray, free-standing bath and sink and toilet at conventional height. There is a large private garden at the rear with hot tub.  The hot tub is accessible via a set of steps and would not be suitable for guests with limited mobility. 

Public Amenities

We have two Amenity Blocks located in the centre of the site, accessed via our gravel roads and paths. Our facilities are open 24 hours a day and have been awarded 4-star status by Visit Scotland. There is a step into the shower in each cubicle. The Amenity Blocks are not accessible using a wheelchair.

The sinks are at conventional height. All taps are conventional push button and the showers are turning ones. A hairdryer and shaver socket are provided at conventional height. There is a tiled floor which can be slippery when wet. 

There is a wet room shower in each amenity block, accessible via the main entrance and is therefore not wheelchair accessible. Grab rails are available in the wet room shower. A red emergency alarm cord is fitted.

There are dishwashing-up sinks located outside to the side of the amenities building. These are conventional height. 

Coin operated automatic washer and front-loading dryer are available.

Water, recycling and refuse and fire points are marked on the infographic map and are located around the site. The chemical disposal point is located at the Amenity Blocks. 

Grounds

The site is relatively flat, with a gradual slope towards the Firth of Forth. All the paths and roadways are gravel and can be uneven in places. The dog walk round the perimeter of the site can be uneven in places and get muddy and slippy. There is an upwards incline as you walk in an anti-clockwise direction near to the holiday lodges.  Care should be taken. The dog walk is not suitable for either wheelchair or ambulant access. 

A children's play area is located in the centre of the site. Seating is available to those who wish to watch their children play or supervise, with a requirement that all small children are supervised by an adult at all times. The play area has wood bark as a soft-landing area.

There are seating areas provided around the site near to the tent pitches and grass touring pitches, as well as those provided for the private use of guests in the glamping bothies and holiday lodges.

Additional Information

The site wardens and site managers live on site and an emergency contact number is provided to all guests.

All dogs are welcome whether they are pets or assistance dogs although they must be kept on a leash at all times whilst on site. Our Pentland lodge, Octo glamping pods, Hexi glamping pods, deluxe glamping bothies with WC and Melville Retreat accommodations are not dog friendly.

There are no vehicle electric charging points on site. Guests should ensure that, if charging a vehicle, it is plugged into the plug inside their accommodation or unit and not directly into the electric points. 

Wi-fi is available free of charge but reception can be variable due to our location.

Mobile phone reception is reasonable on the site but varies depending on the provider.

The nearest hospital should you need it is the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, 51 Little France Crescent, Old Dalkeith Road, Edinburgh, EH16 4SA - 0131 536 1000, which has a 24-hour Accident and Emergency department. The Royal Hospital for Sick Children is located next door at 50 Little France Crescent, Edinburgh bio Quarter, Edinburgh, EH16 4TJ - 0131 536 1000. 

In Musselburgh town centre there is a Boots Chemist and doctors’ surgeries. Riverside Medical Practice 0300 790 6266 is located in the Musselburgh Primary Care Centre.
