Drummohr Glamping Pods and Bothies – FAQ’s

Can I park my car next to my Drummohr glamping pod or bothy cabin?
Yes, one vehicle may be parked next to the Edinburgh glamping accommodation. We have only a small visitors car park therefore we respectfully request that there is only one car per glamping booking. We cannot guarantee on-site parking for additional vehicles and there is only a small country lane with no street parking leading to the site.

What are the arrival and departure times for the Drummohr cabins?
Your Edinburgh glamping cabin will be ready from 2pm on arrival day. If you are going to arrive later than 8pm please let us know. Please note that access to our campsite in Edinburgh is barrier controlled and we are unable to allow arrivals after 10pm to avoid disturbing other guests and breaching our quiet site policy. Departure time on your last day is 10am at the latest to allow us to turn around the glamping pods and bothies for arriving guests.

Can I book Drummohr glamping accommodation all year-round?
If you are looking for glamping in Scotland open all year-round then Drummohr is the place for you. We have a choice of cabins Edinburgh and are an ideal site from which to enjoy the Edinburgh Christmas markets and Hogmanay celebrations, as well as all that East Lothian, Edinburgh's Coast and Country, has to offer making us an ideal choice for camping Edinburgh.

What facilities do you have for babies?
We have baby changing facilities in each of the two amenity blocks. We can hire cots and high chairs for £5 a stay so please call us to reserve.

What does it mean by Low Noise Policy site?
Drummohr Camping and Glamping Site has built a reputation on being a peaceful location at which to enjoy camping Edinburgh. We do not allow music or loud noise from any device that can be heard outside of your cabins Edinburgh. Children must not play in the playground after 9pm and we ask for conversation-level noise only after 10pm. We do expect all guests to follow this policy so that everyone can relax and enjoy their time Edinburgh glamping at Drummohr. Guests who do not will be asked to leave immediately. Our campsite is suitable for families and couples and we do not accept group bookings for groups of more than 3.

What is included in each of your glamping cabins Edinburgh as standard?
Each of our Drummohr glamping pods come with the following as standard (included in the tariff): heating, lighting, toaster, microwave, kettle, fridge, TV/DVD, mattresses, power sockets, picnic table and parking space for 1 car. Our deluxe bothies have a fixed double bed, with bed linen provided free of charge. Linen can be ordered for our glamping pods and family bothies as an Optional Extra at the time of booking.

What are the Glamping Optional Extras?
Drummohr Glamping Extras are optional and are not included in the standard tariff. You can find a full list of extras, which can be ordered at the time of booking, or added prior to your arrival, by clicking HERE. 

Can I bring my dog?
We accommodate one well-behaved dog by prior arrangement in our 4 standard 4-berth en-suite Drummohr bothies for a charge of £5 per night. Regrettably we do not allow dogs in our Octo glamping pods, Hexi glamping pods, Bothy Double or Bothy Double Deluxe. No dangerous breeds. Dogs must always be kept on a lead when staying in any of our cabins Edinburgh and must not be left unattended at any time. We have a dog walk path on our Edinburgh campsite, but can also recommend several other walks suitable for dog walking in the local area. Please ask us for details. Our campsite wardens are also able to advise as to local dog friendly pubs and attractions and the best dog walks Edinburgh.

Are your glamping pods and bothies warm?
Yes! Our Hexi glamping pods and glamping bothy cabins have wall-mounted heaters and our smaller Octo Single glamping pods have under-floor heating. They seem to retain the heat and are available for booking all-year round. 

Is there public transport to Drummohr Camping and Glamping Site?
Drummohr has excellent public transport links to both Edinburgh city centre/Edinburgh Zoo and East along the East Lothian coast making us an ideal location for Edinburgh camping. The number 26 bus to Edinburgh runs every 10 minutes from the Mining Museum Prestonpans bus stop a five-minute walk from the site (every 20 minutes in the evening) and normally takes around 1 hour. East Lothian buses also operate the night service N26 which runs every 90 minutes. Just make sure you get on one with the destination Seton Sands or Tranent if returning on the night service. If you are camping Edinburgh with us we recommend that you download the East Lothian Bus app which gives live updates on every service.

There is also a train station at Wallyford, a twenty-minute walk and trains run every hour. The journey to Edinburgh Waverley takes around 10 minutes. Trains run between approximately 06.30 and 23.00. Wallyford Railway Station has a park and ride, free car parking and plenty of electric vehicle charging stations.

The site is a five-minute walk from the John Muir Way and with a wide choice of cabins Edinburgh to suit your individual budget Drummohr is an excellent overnight spot for cyclists and walkers attempting this long-distance trail.

However, having your own transport is always an advantage when camping or glamping at Drummohr if you want to make the most of the beautiful East Lothian coastline or countryside, as well as being convenient for bringing all your glamping essentials.

Where are your nearest supermarkets?
We have a small licensed shop on site. The nearest convenience store is the Co-Op in nearby Prestonpans, about 1-mile from Drummohr. The Co-Op is open until 10pm. Click here for their website.

Musselburgh is around 2-miles away and has a selection of chain and independent stores including a bakers, greengrocers and butchers. There is also a Tesco Extra, open until midnight, Iceland Foods, open until 8pm and Aldi open until 10pm.

What is there to do on Drummohr glamping site?
Our lovely Scotland glamping site is ideally placed to explore the attractions of Edinburgh, the beautiful coastline and beaches of North Berwick, Scotland’s famous golf courses and the East Lothian countryside. However, with the shores of the Firth of Forth and the Levenhall Links nature reserves a mere 5-minute stroll away you can stay occupied without venturing too far. It’s a lovely walk to Musselburgh and you can always get the bus back if need be. The outdoor Preston Grange Mining Museum is opposite the Drummohr campsite and is free to visit all year round. It provides some fascinating information about the industrial heritage of the local area.

Relaxing on Drummohr site in our beautiful surroundings may also suit. Our Edinburgh campsite is located in the grounds of an old monastery and evidence of the old walled garden still remains. The site is encircled by trees and when the leaves are fallen there are lovely views across the Firth of Forth towards Fife. Your glamping pod/bothy has a covered veranda so you can relax outdoors even if the Scottish weather disappoints. Facilities on-site are kept deliberately low-key to maintain our peaceful environment although there is a children’s playground in the centre of the site. We have a Book Exchange in our Information Point if you fancy reading something different whilst relaxing. There is a small licensed shop on site.

What is the nearest pub serving food?
There are several pubs serving food in Musselburgh (2 miles away) including the Muss Bar and Kitchen (0131 629 9746) and The David Macbeth Moir (JD Wetherspoon), (0131 653 1060). Newcraighall (5 miles away) has the Cuddie Brae (0131 657 1212). There is also a pub in nearby Prestonpans, known locally as The Goth (full title The Prestoungrange Gothenburg) (01875 305741), less than a half hour walk.

Do you accept Stag/Hen Parties at Drummohr touring and glamping site?
Sorry, we do not accept stag or hen parties. As a low noise policy site, we have families and couples who book with us for some quality time at our campsite. Also, as per our terms and conditions, we don’t allow any music to be played by our guests camping Edinburgh that can be heard outside of their Drummohr accommodation, holiday lodge or touring pitch.

Is there WIFI on site?
Yes, complimentary WIFI is available on site for all guests. However, due to our location there can be issues with the free WIFI particularly when the site is full, so we do ask guests to bear this in mind. We do have good 4G signal. Our wardens will try to assist with any specific issues or requests, if you are trying to book somewhere to eat or wanted some local information. If you want any suggestions on how to keep the children entertained whilst staying at Drummohr just let us know, there are lots of child-friendly attractions close by.

Are you within walking distance to local shops?
Yes, you can walk down into either Levenhall, which has a small village store, or Prestonpans, which has a larger selection and a Co-Op. Both are around 1-1.5 miles away. The more energetic could cycle into Musselburgh, around 2 miles away. There is a small licensed shop on site.  Edinburgh is great for shopping.

Can I use my own BBQ?
Yes, you can bring and use your own gas, charcoal or disposable BBQ when Edinburgh camping, however these must be used safely and not placed on the grass or any wooden surface such as the table or decking. We also have BBQs for hire at Reception if you don’t want to bother bringing your own. Never take BBQs into your accommodation, a warm BBQ gives off poisonous carbon monoxide which can kill. Own fire pits, the use of BBQs as firepits, or open fires are not allowed. We do have fire baskets available to hire.

Are there cutlery, plates, bowls and cups in the Edinburgh Wigwams?
Our Drummohr cabins have a fridge, kettle, toaster, TV/DVD, microwave and a heater but we do not supply cutlery and crockery as standard. We do hire out a crockery/cutlery box for £10 per stay.
