Christmas in Edinburgh
A Magical Festive Break with Drummohr Camping & Glamping
If you’re looking for the perfect festive escape, Christmas in Edinburgh is one of the most magical experiences in the UK. From dazzling Christmas lights in Edinburgh to the world-famous Christmas Market and Edinburgh Winter Festival, Scotland’s capital comes alive during late November and December.
Staying at our Edinburgh campsite, just 10 minutes by
train from Edinburgh city centre, gives you the best of both worlds — cosy
accommodation close to the action, yet surrounded by peace and countryside
charm. We are one of the few Edinburgh campsites open all year so why not enjoy A Scottish Christmas at Drummohr?
Edinburgh's Winter Fesitval
The Edinburgh Winter Festival takes place across many famous landmarks in Edinburgh and runs from the last weekend in November until the 3rd of January. The Edinburgh Winter Festival has something for everyone including:
- Artisan festive gifts and delicious food and drink at the Edinburgh Christmas Market in the East Princes Street Gardens.
- Take in the sights from the Big Wheel or Around the World Star Flyer.
- Enjoy the family funfair, storytelling with Santa himself, or find your way through the festive Christmas tree maze in Santa Land at West Princes Street Gardens.
- Have a go at ice skating and enjoy the traditional
fairground rides on Edinburgh’s famous George Street.
Edinburgh Christmas Market
The Edinburgh Christmas Market
on Princes Street Gardens is a must-visit. Wooden chalets brimming with gifts,
traditional German food, mulled wine and festive treats create an unforgettable
atmosphere. Whether you’re browsing handcrafted decorations or enjoying a
warming hot chocolate, the market is a highlight of Christmas camping in
Edinburgh.
Christmas Botanic Gardens Edinburgh
Another seasonal favourite is the
Christmas at the Botanics in Edinburgh, a spectacular illuminated trail
through the Royal Botanic Garden. Twinkling lights, immersive soundscapes, and
installations bring the gardens to life after dark. It’s a family-friendly
event that captures the magic of winter and is a great way to spend an evening
before returning to your cosy glamping pod or hot tub lodge at Drummohr.
Edinburgh Zoo' Giant Lanterns
The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS) will be lighting up Edinburgh Zoo between November and February with Edinburgh Zoo’s Giant Lanterns, a spectacular outdoor lantern immersive trail with a never-before-seen theme for 2025, featuring all things aquatic.
Visitors can expect to be
transported under the sea, where weird and wonderful creatures wander the waves
in a mile-long nocturnal trail. Over 600 lanterns will shine a tide of light on
incredible wildlife that is rarely seen, from shimmering jellyfish and playful
dolphins to legendary beasts of the deep.
Christmas Lights in Edinburgh
The whole city sparkles during
the festive season. The Christmas lights in Edinburgh brighten up George
Street, the Royal Mile, and Princes Street, creating perfect backdrops for
festive photos. Don’t miss the giant Christmas tree on The Mound or the Street
of Light displays.
Christmas Shows in Edinburgh
There’s normally a wide range of
bookable events taking place throughout November and December:
- The Royal Lyceum Edinburgh always has family friendly music adaptation running between late November and early January. For 2025 this is Cinderella; A Fairy Tale.
