You'll be spoilt for choice when it comes to deciding where to take your children for the day when staying at our child-friendly campsite near Edinburgh, conveniently located just 10 miles from the city itself - you'll be enjoying lots of fun activities in no time. Along with exploring the beautiful East Lothian coastline, having fun on our children's playground and lots more, there are so many child friendly Edinburgh things to do. Our staff and wardens have put together a variety of child-friendly places and activities below to make it easy for you if you're struggling to decide what to do. Children's playground

Our child-friendly campsite offers a children's playground, providing the perfect activity for a cost effective day out. Sit back and relax whilst they have fun and make new friends. Our playground has a sand pit, grassed area and several pieces of equipment for hours of fun. The large, open play area in the centre of the campsite is safe and secure, complete with play bark for a soft landing and is surrounded by touring pitches.

Fire pits & BBQs

In true camping style, why not hire a fire pit or BBQ for your glamping pod, bothy or touring pitch. Your children will love toasting marshmallows, making s'mores and keeping toasty around a fire pit. You can even enjoy stargazing whilst you sit round the fire and get the kids learning about astronomy with some fun games. our Edinburgh campsite is in a prime spot to enjoy stargazing as its located away from the lights of the town centre.

Hot tub accommodation

Get the children splashing about in a hot tub for endless hours of fun! Our Melville Retreat self catering cottage and holiday lodges include the use of your own private hot tub, a perfect treat for both you and the kids.

Edinburgh Christmas Markets

If you're visiting us around Christmas time then visiting the Edinburgh Christmas markets is a must! These start running in November and run for 6 weeks so there's plenty of time to visit when you stay at our East Lothian camping and glamping site. You can easily access the Christmas markets by car or a short bus journey and what better base for exploring Edinburgh than Drummohr? Offering the best of both worlds, you can explore the beautiful city of Edinburgh one day and retreat back to our campsite on the peaceful East Lothian coastline. Edinburgh Zoo

Edinburgh Zoo remains one of the top family-friendly attractions in the city, home to many wonderful animals your children will absolutely love discovering. They often hold special events for occasions such as Halloween and Christmas so have a look on their website before you stay with us so you can plan your trip.

National Museum of Scotland

For those budding historians, there's no better place to visit than the National Museum of Scotland - the perfect attraction for a rainy day in Scotland. Get the children learning about milestones in history with museum trails, the Grand gallery, Animal World and more. And best of all the National Museum of Scotland is free to enter. There's so many activities for kids in Edinburgh but if you're looking for something a little different, why not visit Dynamic Earth. Dynamic Earth is a 5 star visitor attraction situated at the heart of Edinburgh’s World Heritage Site. It sits within an award winning and iconic tented structure at the foot of Salisbury Crags in the Holyrood area of the city. It tells the story of planet Earth and how our Earth works, how life has evolved on its differing environments and the future challenges faced by planet Earth. East Lothian beaches

Our East Lothian campsite is an advantageous spot, just a 5 minute walk from the East Lothian campsite making it easy for you to set off on foot to explore the beautiful beaches in East Lothian. The top 10 Lothian beaches include Yellowcraig Beach, Seacliff Beach, Gullane Beach, Bellhaven Beach, Thorntonloch Beach, Tyninghame Beach, East Beach, Seton Sands, West Beach and Mussleburgh Beach. Find out more about each beach here. The kids will love running through the sands, flying a kite, building sand castles and lots more. 

John Muir Country Park

This is another attraction which is easily accessible from our East Lothian campsite due to being located on a beautiful stretch of coastline. It is popular amongst families who enjoy the outdoors, offering an outdoor play area and plenty of space to run around and explore.

East Links Family Park

The East Links Family Park is a real hit amongst children visiting Drummohr. There's so much to do at the family park including go-karts, pedal tractors, crazy bikes, 4 Level fortress with slides, sand pits, play park, sledging slope, hay barn, trampolines, jelly bellies, musical maze, 18 hole crazy golf and a safari train which takes you through the fields to meet friendly animals!

On the farm here are cows, highland cows, sheep, goats, pigs, horses, donkeys, deer, chickens, rabbits, guinea pigs, rhea, geese, ducks, prairie dogs, llamas and wallabies!
